Free Kids Dental in Caboolture — Is Your Child Eligible?

Your child could be entitled to up to $1,158 in free dental care — and at McCloy Dental, we bulk bill the entire thing. No gap payments, no surprise invoices.

The Australian Government's Child Dental Benefits Schedule (CDBS) gives eligible children access to essential dental treatment at no cost to families. We've been part of this program since it launched, and we've helped thousands of Caboolture and Morayfield families get their kids' teeth sorted without the financial stress.

If you're not sure whether your child qualifies, just call us on 07 5495 7988 — our reception team can check eligibility while you're on the phone.

What Does the CDBS Cover?

The scheme covers essential dental services including:

  • Checkups and examinations

  • X-rays

  • Teeth cleaning

  • Fillings

  • Fissure sealants (protective coating on back teeth)

  • Extractions

  • Root canal treatment

Cosmetic dental treatment is not covered under the scheme.

How Much Is the Benefit?

Eligible children receive up to $1,158 over two consecutive calendar years. The two-year period begins from the date of your child's first CDBS dental service.

If you don't use the full amount in year one, the remainder carries over to year two. At the end of the two-year period, any unused balance cannot be claimed; but if your child remains eligible, a new two-year period begins and the benefit resets.

Is My Child Eligible?

Your child is likely eligible if they:

  • Are aged 2 to 17 years old

  • Are eligible for Medicare

  • Receive Family Tax Benefit Part A, or another qualifying government payment, for at least part of the calendar year

The easiest way to check is to call us directly on 07 5495 7988 — we can confirm eligibility for you quickly. You can also check through your Medicare online account via myGov, or contact Services Australia on 132 011.

Does McCloy Dental Bulk Bill for CDBS?

Yes, completely. We bulk bill all eligible treatment under the Child Dental Benefits Schedule, which means there is no out-of-pocket cost to you for covered services.

We're a family practice. We know that getting kids comfortable at the dentist from a young age sets them up for a lifetime of good oral health, and cost shouldn't be a barrier to that. We've been bulk billing CDBS since the program began and we intend to continue for as long as it runs.

What Happens at Your Child's Appointment?

Our dentists are experienced with children and genuinely good with nervous or anxious kids. At a first appointment we'll:

  • Do a gentle checkup and chat with your child about their teeth

  • Take X-rays if needed

  • Clean their teeth

  • Explain anything we find in plain language, to you and, where appropriate, to your child

We aim to make the experience something kids don't dread. Many of our youngest patients have grown up coming to McCloy Dental.

Frequently Asked Questions

My child has never been to the dentist. Is that okay?

Absolutely, first visits are welcome. We'll take it at your child's pace.

Can I use the benefit at any dentist?

Only at practices registered with the CDBS program. McCloy Dental is registered and bulk bills in full.

What if my child needs treatment that exceeds $1,158?

We'll discuss any costs with you before proceeding with any treatment outside the scheme. There are no surprises.

My child turns 18 this year; are they still eligible?

Yes, as long as they turn 18 at some point during the calendar year and meet the other eligibility criteria.

We're not from Caboolture: can we still come?

Yes. We see families from Morayfield, North Lakes, Bribie Island, the Sunshine Coast, and Brisbane. The CDBS benefit applies regardless of where you live.
